Crain's Chicago Business: Restaurant News and Notes
"A 100-year-old Nashville jewelry store is the star of Beatnik on the River's new space in the Loop. The bar debuted last summer as a seasonal riverfront patio and now has an indoor space, too. Owner Daniel Alonso took an entire 20-by-20 foot store-- with massive crystal chandeliers, crystal sconces and bird's-eye maple interior-- and dropped it in the middle of Beatnik on the River's new indoor space, serving as an extension of the cocktail bar. The shop was restored and put back together piece by a local master carpenter. Essentiall a hall of mirrors with recessed, mirrored niches and sliding-door cabinets once used for jewelry display and storage, the space includes pink velvet-topped benches on each side of a 15-foot French draper's table with eight turned legs, three drawers and lower shelf down the middle. The riverfront patio will reopen when the weather cooperates."
