Casa Beatnik Hotel mixes history and modernity, a home for cosmopolitan travelers and seekers of uncharted experiences in Galicia, one of Spain’s most unspoiled regions.

Nestled in Galicia’s Rías Baixas wine region, Casa Beatnik Hotel is a new destination hotel created by Bonhomme, an award-winning design studio and hospitality group. Casa Beatnik Hotel’s maiden property, a Country House, offers guests seven acres of bespoke bohemian luxury, wellness retreats and inspired hospitality.

Located 20 minutes outside of Santiago de Compostela, Casa Beatnik Hotel boasts 13 individually styled suites, 6 luxury yurts, two distinct restaurants, craft cocktail bars, a working winery and a vineyard featuring one of the world’s oldest vines. Other amenities include Iglusaunas from Estonia, a saltwater pool and daybeds, and a wellness and spa team of certified instructors and therapists specializing in yoga, physio and several relaxing massages.

From our pastoral surroundings in the Ribeira do Ulla, guests are just a short drive away from the fishing villages and farmsteads of the Atlantic Coast of Spain. This is Galicia profunda, a rural paradise set against an arresting backdrop of vineyards, working farms and picturesque villages spanning lush mountains and rugged coastlines, a celebration of our connection to nature and its ever-changing seasons. Galicia is an extraordinary setting that evokes that rare feeling of a place that’s seemingly untouched and slightly lost in time, a destination for global nomads, who arrive to discover the excellence of its culinary treasures, winemakers, chefs, purveyors and artisans.

“If I had to describe the style of our designs and brands, I would call us pure joie de vivre, seductive, colorful, romantic, sophisticated and unpredictably classic,” said Daniel Alonso, founder and creative director of Bonhomme. “We want Casa Beatnik Hotel to be your lively sanctuary from where we can share with you our love for the history, culture, land, sea and people of Galicia.” Having grown up between the United States and his parents’ hometowns in Galicia, Daniel has a personal, heartfelt connection to this part of the world.

Named after the bohemian freethinkers of the 1950s and ’60s, Casa Beatnik Hotel celebrates their spirit and artistic legacy. As a muse and historical touchstone, one beatnik commands our nostalgic reverence: Yves Saint Laurent, a pioneering genius who transformed his era and democratized fashion with timeless and seductive design. At Casa Beatnik Hotel we are constantly inspired by YSL and the beatnik generation’s sense of style, aspiration and rebellion to create an exotic escape with progressive, globally inspired food, cocktails and music.

Designed by Maison Bonhomme, the studio responsible for creating all of Bonhomme’s concepts, Casa Beatnik Hotel’s aesthetic is driven by a sublime blending of three countries close to our heart: Morocco for its sumptuous combinations of color and passionate artisans, France for its music and artistic confidence and Italy for a proper dose of polish and panache to sex it all up.

Our maximalist design is a journey through different cultures and textures to confer a sense of mystery and charm, channeling aesthetes from another time who would surround themselves with beautiful pieces, collected from their travels around the world. The accidental visitor, who happens to stroll by, would need to guess the impeccably curated wonders hidden beyond the pink camellia façade of the property’s pazo.

Before its rebirth as Casa Beatnik Hotel, the property was once home to Antonio Lopez Ferreiro, a canon of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, founding member of the Royal Academy of the Galician Language, a prominent Galician writer, and the man responsible for the rediscovery in the 19th century of the reliquary containing the long-lost remains of St. James the Elder, the patron saint of Spain.

To bring Casa Beatnik Hotel’s colorful, collaged vision to life, Maison Bonhomme collaborated closely with an incredible design team starring Luca Lanzetta Group, Popham Design, Molteni&Co, Antoniolupi, Sogni Di Cristallo and Viccarbe. A devoted team of stonemasons, ironworkers, carpenters, winemakers, farmers and master artisans were also instrumental in the meticulous two-year transformation of the 18th century estate.

Together, they personalized a one-of-a-kind collection of furniture and fittings by some of the 20th and 21st century’s most exciting designers and master artisans. From Milan and Murano to Jaén, Tashkent and Marrakech, they include Patricia Urquiola, Vincent Van Duysen, Rodolfo Dordoni, Gio Ponti, Yabu Pushelberg, John Pawson, Foster + Partners, Soufiane Zarib and Jordi Mollá.

One of Casa Beatnik Hotel’s most special qualities is the amount of diverse greenery one can discover thanks to its lush gardens and vineyard. Of the property’s seven acres, Casa Beatnik Hotel’s working winery and vineyard take up nearly three acres. Led by proprietor Juan Carlos Alonso and one of Galicia’s finest winemakers, Rodrigo Méndez of Forjas Del Salnés, our winery and vineyard produce less than 500 cases of single vineyard wine that is 100% old vine Albariño, finished in individually selected French oak barrels. The vineyard is also the custodian of the oldest vine in Galicia, a red varietal known as Cascón. Our 400-year-old Cascón vine produces an average of 300 kilos of grapes that we vinify into a very special red wine. Juan Carlos and Rodrigo have also begun a project to protect and cultivate this very special varietal.

Casa Beatnik Hotel's gardens were planted with over 4,000 indigenous and tropical plants. Some of the more remarkable species were imported from Andalusia and Tuscany, with olive trees ranging in age from 60 years to 600 years and a dramatic entrance driveway flanked by over 20 cypress trees.
